There lived a man in Kanchipuram, who was speech impaired since birth. He regularly visited Kamakshi temple and prostrated before the Goddess. One day, he saw the lips of the Goddess and after that he could speak. He later wrote a work called ‘Mooka Pancha Sati’ or five hundred Slokas in praise of the Goddess. The word ‘mooka’ is a Sanskrit word, which translates to ‘a person who cannot speak’. Hence, his name remained as ‘Mooka Kavi’. Aryasatakam is one of his creation.
